Surgery on patient with gigantomastia removes more than 10 kg of breast in Maringá
The operation lasted more than eight hours and was one of the largest carried out in the country. The main cause of gigantomastia is genetic. The condition affects patients' health and self-esteem.

A plastic surgery performed in Maringá caught the country's attention due to its size and impact on the patient's life. Under the command of plastic surgeon Dr. Benner Milani, the operation resulted in the removal of 10.5 kg of breast. The case is considered one of the largest breast reductions ever recorded in Brazil.
The Challenge of Gigantomastia
Excess breast tissue, a condition known as gigantomastia, goes far beyond an aesthetic issue. In this patient's case, the volume severely affected her health and self-esteem.

The surgery, carried out in December and with post-operative care recently concluded, lasted 8 and a half hours. One of the great differences of the procedure was the technique used by the medical team to preserve the areolar-papillary complex.
According to Dr. Benner Milani, the technique allowed the patient to regain sensitivity in her nipples — something she reported not having fully achieved even before the surgery. "All the conservation of this nipple and the patient's reports is that it maintained sensitivity, which in fact she even said pre-operatively that she didn't have it and that she had it again", explained the specialist.
Recovery and New Quality of Life
The main objective of reduction mammoplasty, in these cases, is to restore health and dignity to the patient. Currently, she has returned to her work routine and has recovered practically 100%.
